New to this? Here’s the intro.
Last week: Week 4

As Week 5 rolls in, we get to take a gander at simulcasts and favorites. Simulcasts are a fairly boring subject nowadays, since it is actually more rare for a show to not be streamed legally somewhere in the eligible English-speaking regions counted for our purposes. However, favorites are much like scores – the powerful shows have consistently high favorites, while the next tier is largely decided by these small differences. It’s early for things to be thrown off too much by them, but they are an omen of things to come, and we can try to predict the future for now.

lostpikachu says:

I didn’t move up in rank, but I didn’t go down in rank either, and I gained more points this week than a number of people ahead of me so I’ll count this as a good week. Comet Lucifer is going to have its last stand next week and then Owari will be up to bat, potentially. Hopefully Lucifer‘s remaining watchers, and rage-filled forum, will pull me ahead next week. I guess we’ll see where things go from here!

Family raising anime Comet Lucifer continues to hang by the most thin of threads; its rather pathetic favorites count of 40 only barely manages to be enough to keep its head above the ever-rising waters of Owarimonogatari and Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider, but even that is enough to make it worth keeping in for lostpikachu this week at least. Since next week is discussion only, that means it is probably still going to be a better choice then, too, but its time in the limelight continues to wane. When it comes to Comet Lucifer‘s future success, though, I only have one thought.

I made a fairly risky move this week; ever since last week, multiple-personality anime The Perfect Insider has been doing ever so slightly better than Owarimonogatari since last week, and it seems to be continuing that trend for the near future. The risk comes in the difference between their scores, and to a lesser extent their discussion; discussion is fairly equal, but as score weeks become worth more and more points, The Perfect Insider‘s Watching lead over Owarimonogatari may not be enough. Luckily I still have another swap and a potential wildcard swap left after this, but I really should have swapped last week since its lead started then and this swap will bleed into at least one score week, which is where the real risk comes in.

Sestrel has managed something that none of us in this group have been able to do for the years we have been playing this game: she achieved the highest unique team score bonus this week, for a modest boost of 4000 points. That is a decent amount, and a surprise one too, which will do her good in keeping away from the otherwise scarily rising power of NeoRevan below her. She also gained the relative bonus of 2000 points over everyone who has improper glove anime Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai Umatteiru on their team thanks to having a full team of 8000 point simulcast bonuses. In fact, those two things may not be entirely unrelated. Now it’s just a matter of sitting and watching it play out.

aeg2138 says:

I like where I’m currently sitting in the rankings and I’d really like to stay ahead of NeoRevan but the stars are going to have to align for that to happen, in that I’ll need a bunch of people to suddenly start hating K. I have some ideas on ways to stay ahead, but I’m gonna need some serious luck on my side.

Indeed, even with the swap of Heavy Object to Comet Lucifer, things don’t seem to be looking too great for aeg2138’s ability to stay above rising star NeoRevan. While their teams are generally similar, aeg2138 is suffering in the long term for not having K nor Haikyuu!! Second Season to back him up. Unfortunately, there really is nothing he can do in his current situation aside from hope, as he pointed out, since his bench is not doing him any favors either.

NeoRevan says:

Something that you all can’t see is the amount of Smack Talk between aeg and me. He’s barely ahead of me, and the only difference is the Titanic-esque Comet Lucifer and (however much I might complain about it) K, which, while isn’t growing by leaps and bounds, has about about 1500 less drops, almost 2 full score points more, and only 700 less watches than Comet Lucifer. I thought that I was done with this season. I’m not, but aeg is going down in the long run. His only other options are still worse than Comet Lucifer, and I will take him down. This is the Trench Run, and I am perfectly fine with playing Vader. Will Lucifer be his Han Solo? Unlikely.

Given the difference between equal opportunity fanservice anime K: Return of Kings and Comet Lucifer, and the fact that NeoRevan and aeg2138 are actually right next to each other in the ranks, I don’t even think this will be a long-term issue. If not next week, then very soon NeoRevan will pass his rival, as the small lead in Watching numbers Comet Lucifer has is offset in almost every other way by K‘s dominance. The only way this won’t happen is if either K‘s fanbase suddenly disappears or Comet Lucifer‘s users have a massive change of heart about their show.

On the other hand, GuyCot here seems stuck. He isn’t actually making many more points per week less than aeg2138 – only about 2000 this week, for example – but once again the lack of a Haikyuu!! Second Season or K: Return of Kings team member is keeping him back from making a real return. In the long run, there is potential hope that Comet Lucifer‘s eventual crash will leave the likes of anti-magic school anime Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai ahead. It isn’t all that unlikely, either; Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai has gained some ground since its slow start, and is now just a small notch below the warring states of Owarimonogatari and Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider. Like those shows, it has many weeks of chances ahead to pull itself up as Comet Lucifer drags itself down.

For Hamdog92, though, there isn’t much hope for forward momentum, at least not among us. I’ve said this before, but he doesn’t have enough of the heavy hitters to pull his weight, and among the fringe shows, he has the two that seem the least likely to do well in the long run. His bench is also full of disappointments, so unless the impatient fans of Shingeki no Kyoujin suddenly turn around their opinions of their spinoff show, not much action will be happening there, either.

Yuru Yuri San☆Hai!: 8000

If anything, it is interesting to see how hilariously low a lot of these numbers are. A couple of Aikijou’s shows didn’t even break 1000 points in favorites points, which only requires a measly 40 people to really like the anime. Also, Yuru Yuri’s fanbase is either now practically nonexistent or just not willing to watch the show while it is airing. At least all of this shows are streaming in every eligible region. Which is good for all of us.

That once again wraps us up for another exciting week of Fantasy Anime League. Things slow down next week, as there are no extra points acquired aside from the typical bi-weekly discussion boost. That means that there isn’t likely going to be any massive change-ups for the time being, but it is still a good indicator of what levels of discussion each show has settled into a little more than a third into the season as the hype has mostly died down. Until then, keep a close eye on your shows, and catch me here again.
