New to this? Here’s the intro.
Last week: Week 5

We’re almost halfway through the season, and a small break in the insanity dawns on week 6. There are no special rules, no extra points being divvied out by the anime gods, just a good and simple count of which shows people are watching and which ones they are talking about. As such, there is more speculation from me than usual this week, and I will attempt to guess how things will go even though there are still 8 more weeks for events to unfold. Impatient, some people may call me, and I wouldn’t object.

lostpikachu says:

Comet Lucifer’s DEPRESSINGLY low count of 26 posts for the recent episode definitely made sure I wouldn’t get to make it to the coveted 2nd place this week, but I’m hoping that a swapping in of Owari for next week will send me skyrocketing up since next week is Scores. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve, and now it’s time to start making some changes!

Eh, that is only the new episode’s thread. Being that bipedal armor anime Comet Lucifer is one of the last shows to air in a Fantasy Anime League week, it can seem disheartening to see the low post count on the newest thread. However, it really doesn’t hurt things too much for its newest thread to seem a little barren at the beginning, because any new posts in the next two weeks will count toward the score when the next discussion points time comes – hence the total of 226 posts for Comet Lucifer in total this week. I suppose for lostpikachu specifically, though, this is all moot, as he seems pretty set on swapping Comet Lucifer out very soon, so those future posts aren’t worth much to him.

Parenticide anime Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider continues to show off its long term potential, growing in Watchers even further this week and making it into the top 5 point gainers this week. It won’t exactly last into next week – its Score, like everyone else’s, is pretty much nothing compared to STEM anime Owarimonogatari –  but aside from that, I think its overall worth is good, at least until score weeks become unreasonably strong. And, well, that’s what swaps are for.

On the other hand, Sestrel here has no reason to fret over the two popular mystery shows, as she has both. Neither is doing as well as Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru, which is why she continues to fall and lag behind, but it is pretty nice overall to not have to think about which one to hedge her bets on. It’s working out for now, too, since they are keeping her head above the water and staying just a hair ahead of aeg2138 and NeoRevan below.

Despite all the talk earlier, aeg2138 made a respectable rough 3000 points more than NeoRevan, asserting his current position, even if not making a push toward a higher rank. Unfortunately for him, though, NeoRevan has a much better looking score week ahead of him, while aeg2138 is essentially stuck with the disappointing Comet Lucifer. A modest profit like the one this week may not be enough in the long run, especially when there is still more than half of the season to go.

NeoRevan says:

aeg wins this Thunderdome. But I shall arise and overwhelm him. In the name of Imortan Joe. I SHALL BE SHINY AND CHROME!!!

Serious bit: If your reading this and haven’t watched it, go watch Heavy Object. Just a plug for my favorite show of the season. Easily.

Ignoring that NeoRevan used this esteemed blog series to post propaganda about bad anime, NeoRevan has little to fear as I stated above. aeg2138 does not have real high jumping anime Haikyuu!! Second Season, which also means he has nothing to outweigh the positive reception to Hulu anime K: Return of Kings. This difference will only grow as score weeks become more valuable.

Guycot says:

Lance n Lolis is the objective best show this season.

Guycot actually managed to outscore NeoRevan this week by about 1000 points, which is pretty cool but won’t last for the same reasons I spoke about above. More relevant to Guycot’s future is that he is also outpacing Hamdog92 below him; as seems to be the pattern, the conflict here has more to do with keeping his current place as opposed to aiming for higher. For now at least, Guycot is succeeding in that effort.

Hamdog92 is on the other side of that conflict – he wants to move up, especially since he has been stuck at the effective bottom the whole season so far. He doesn’t have Owarimonogatari, but he does have Haikyuu!! Second Season. I haven’t talked about it much since most of us have Haikyuu!!, but in special case Guycot does not, and he also doesn’t have K: Return of Kings. And we’ve talked a lot about Owarimonogatari’s incredibly high average score, but Haikyuu!!‘s is even higher, granting Hamdog92 a real advantage over Guycot’s lack of either restricted sequel. Unfortunately, he also has the fallen king Comet Lucifer and no reasonable show to replace it with, so he may simply be unable to catch up despite everything. There are quite a few weeks left, so we’ll watch it unfold soon.

As the first week in a whole without any kind of special score happening, this week was fairly rote and uneventful. As I mentioned multiple times, though, next week is score week:

  • +6000*((un)weighted score) points for score ratings on MAL upon week 7.

I’ve talked at some length about how this will probably affect things, and it will finally all come to fruition as the season reaches its halfway point next week. I’m sure I’ll have even more to say as it does. ‘Till then.
