New to this? Here’s the intro.

The first week of Fantasy Anime League has come. This is (basically) the one-year anniversary of me making these posts, too, which is pretty neat. I don’t even remember why I started doing them, but it’s a pretty relaxing way to spend time, so I don’t regret it. The best part is getting to expand my library of screencaps with useful lines. It’s like watching my weekly anime with two brains that have entirely different goals.

OK, I’ll stop. Time for numbers.

ss+(2016-04-13+at+01.38.18)

Overall ranks week 1:

  1. 69 (–) lostpikachu – 156607
  2. 144 (–) Hamdog92 – 143162
  3. 147 (–) Guycot – 140908
  4. 177 (–) NeoRevan – 130587
  5. 182 (–) draft4fal – 128784
  6. 214 (–) aeg2138 – 113022
  7. 237 (–) Necromaster – 98871
  8. 261 (–) Sestrel – 79606

Individual stats:

Team: lostpikachu
New points: 156607
All points: 156607
Ace: Mayoiga: 3000
Week 1 watching points:
———————–
Gyakuten Saiban: Sono “Shinjitsu”, Igi Ari!
– Watching: 26313
Joker Game
– Watching: 29766
Mayoiga
– Watching: 39467
Seisen Cerberus: Ryuukoku no Fatalités
– Watching: 15291
– Watching x2: 15291
Sousei no Onmyouji
– Watching: 27479
=> 153607

lostpikachu says:

Thank you Cerberus for having somewhat of an audience, yet no one that believed in you for FAL.  I’m definitely not holding this first place for long once post counts happen next week, but it was great to start out on top.  This season’s going to be tough!  Good luck everyone!

While I might disagree about the specifics here (if 15k people is an audience, every show ever made has an audience!), tag-playing anime Cerberus getting to play the role Lance ‘n Masques did last time around is a pretty great way to start the season. That puts it at third, meaning the only top three show lostpikachu is missing right now is Tom Cruise anime Re:Zero. Early signs point to Re:Zero being the real hero, but maybe lostpikachu can manage to keep his head over the water in the end.

Team: Hamdog92
New points: 143162
All points: 143162
Ace: Mayoiga: 3000
Week 1 watching points:
———————–
Bakuon!!
– Watching: 8725
– Watching x2: 8725
Joker Game
– Watching: 29766
Mayoiga
– Watching: 39467
Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?
– Watching: 23482
Sakamoto desu ga?
– Watching: 29997
=> 140162

Hamdog92 says:

2nd place. I know this position well, I’ve never been in 1st place in my entire time in the league. Overall I will say that I’m pretty satisfied with how my actives are preforming. I wholly regret not placing Luluco in my active team and I’m admittedly worried about Re:Zero’s popularity. But I do think my trifecta of Mayoiga, Sakamoto, and Joker Game will ultimately prevail in the long run.

I’m still hopeful that I can come in 1st place this season, though I say that with a lower expectation of confidence.

From where we’re sitting now, aspiring to first place without Re:Zero on your team is truly aiming for the moon, but crazier things have happened, like the season where No Game No Life rocketed to the top at the very last moment (having your show end within the FAL season is a good thing!). He’s right to feel good about his position, though: starting three of the top five, and without any of them riding on a flimsy 2x multiplier, is a pretty good place to be.

Team: Guycot
New points: 140908
All points: 140908
Ace: Mayoiga (3000)
Week 1 watching points:
———————–
Kiznaiver
– Watching: 29760
Mayoiga
– Watching: 39467
Sakamoto desu ga?
– Watching: 29997
Sousei no Onmyouji
– Watching: 27479
Ushio to Tora (TV) 2nd Season
– Watching: 11205
=> 137908

Guycot says:

So this FAL is off with a bang. Hamdog and I are having a rematch and with just over a 2K point difference this is going to be intense.
Starting in third is pretty great and I will have to make moves to maintain my position. If Ace Attorney drops like alot of people are guessing it will the first spot might even be up for grabs.
Definitely pay attention to this fight for second though in the coming weeks.
As for personal strategy, if Mayoiga hits 45K this week I will be able to ace and hopefully pull in some big points.

Yep, it’s not a coincidence that the three teams blessed enough to have Mayoiga are also the top three teams to start the season. And at this rate, murderbus anime Mayoiga is basically destined for 45k, so more ace opportunities are simply a matter of time. As far as weaknesses go, Ace Attorney is certainly something to be wary of, but I’d be more worried about what this team has to replace its own weaknesses – meth anime Endride is the current next best thing, and that is a pretty significant drop in terms of raw watching numbers. Math required.

Team: NeoRevan
Ace: Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: 3000
New points: 130587
All points: 130587
Week 1 watching points:

Gyakuten Saiban: Sono “Shinjitsu”, Igi Ari!
– Watching: 26313

– Watching: 18873
JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Diamond wa Kudakenai

Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?
– Watching: 23482
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
– Watching: 37830
=> 127587

NeoRevan says:

First week is done, and I ended a little worse than I thought I would. Not as bad as I first thought(looked at the other numbers for Reply:0 and learned that NavyCherub was playing our league under a different name that was lower than me) so I’m a little more optimistic going forward. If Reply:0 is my hope, Ace Attorney is my demise. It has decent watching numbers, but is about to be over shadowed by Netoge and possibly even Hundred and its drops are raising at an alarming rate. It started with a 29:1 watching to drop rate. As of Sunday, it was 19:1. Sadly, Ushio is only good for score and drops, with dismal watching, while Sansha just started, is permanent x2, but as kinda low score. Have a few weeks to see what happens, but I think I can survive AA’s high drops the first drop week at least. At least my bench looks a little better this year than last. But end of the day, Reply:0 with its unusually high score, high watching, lots of Forum post, and (compared to other shows cough Village People*cough*) low drops, That will be my savior. Three cheers for hour long premiers.

The thing about Ace Attorney is that it might be a pain to deal with, but as things currently stand two of the three people above NeoRevan have it and aren’t in fantastic positions to replace it, either. Now, NeoRevan may have a worse overall bench than most of them, but none of them have Re:Zero, and I’m pretty confident that Re:Zero will be an unstoppable homerun. It all comes down to whether or not it can create a large enough gap from Mayoiga to make up for other problems.

Team: draft4fal (navycherub)
Ace: Sakamoto desu ga?
New points: 128784
All points: 128784
Week 1 watching points:

Bakuon!!
– Watching: 8725
– Watching x2: 8725
JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Diamond wa Kudakenai
– Watching: 21089
Kiznaiver
– Watching: 29760
Kuma Miko
– Watching: 13744
– Watching x2: 13744
Sakamoto desu ga?
– Watching: 29997
=> 125784

First of all, I’d like to say that my ace was a real nail biter. I waited until the last possible second to send it in because Bayonetta anime Sakamoto desu ga? and Kokoro Connect anime Kiznaiver were neck and neck the whole time, within a couple hundred points as you can see. In the end I sent in my ace for Sakamoto because I figured it wouldn’t have as much of a chance to stick as Kiznaiver probably would later, and it paid off, which is good. Second, I can’t believe Kennedy anime Bakuon!! is on my active and Cerberus is on my bench. What a fool I am. What a fool.

– Watching: 6214
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
– Watching: 37830
=> 113022

aeg2138 says:

I wish I had paid more attention to the numbers week one. Looks like I’ll miss out on the chance to ace Re:Zero and that’ll probably end up hurting me in the end. It’s still early though, so I’m still optimistic about my chances. Provided Big Order can get me some big numbers and help me ascend in the ranks.

Yep, missing that Re:Zero ace is pretty disheartening, especially since it was such a clear winner for aeg2138 this week. As for his future chances, his team overall is one of extremes – Re:Zero, Kiznaiver, and even Kuma Miko are hitting big, but the double whammy of Netflix anime Kuromukuro and koda anime Macross leaves aeg2138 in a pretty dire position from the get-go. Luckily, his bench isn’t the worst thing in the world, with Flying Witch having time to gain respectable numbers and Big Order having not even aired yet but probably guaranteeing an instant fanbase. The future is a huge maybe for aeg2138, but it’s his to carve.

ss+(2016-04-13+at+01.58.18)

Team: Necromaster
New points: 98871
All points: 98871
Ace: Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: 3000
Week 1 watching points:

Joker Game
– Watching: 29766
Kuromukuro
– Watching: 5865
– Watching x2: 5865

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
– Watching: 37830
Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge
– Watching: 10331
=> 95871

The good: Necromaster managed to get in his ace for Re:Zero. The bad: essentially everything else. Three of these shows are not or only barely breaking 10k watchers in this first week, which is a pretty dire place to start. Two of them are also in streaming limbo, and one of them is sleepy anime Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge, which I may love but can’t say is exciting enough to pick up the slack. The potential light at the end of the tunnel here is that Necromaster has the yet-to-be aired Big Order on his bench, which just may be enough to pull him higher up the ladder.

Team: Sestrel
New points: 79606
All points: 79606
Ace: Gyakuten Saiban: Sono “Shinjitsu”, Igi Ari!: 3000
Week 1 watching points:

Gyakuten Saiban: Sono “Shinjitsu”, Igi Ari!
– Watching: 26313
Hundred
– Watching: 18873
JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Diamond wa Kudakenai
– Watching: 21089
Magi: Sinbad no Bouken (TV)
– Watching: 0
Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge
– Watching: 10331
=> 76606

If the top three share their powerhouse Mayoiga, the bottom three can feel solace in Big Order on their benches. That’s about all most of them can count on now, really – when Ace Attorney is your, uh, ace, your chances in the future are inherently in danger. Sestrel specifically has a pretty unique issue; while other non-streaming shows like Macross and Kuromukuro could have been foreseen, Magi: Sinbad no Bouken is part of a franchise that has a precedent for streaming, yet it seems to have been passed over entirely for some reason. That’s just some bad luck right there.

And that wraps up this first week of Fantasy Anime League! Next week has no special rules, but most things should have worked out about how much of an audience they really have, and we also get the first bi-weekly discussion points, where we get to find out how excited people are about the riveting mystery and drama in the critically acclaimed Anne Happy. ‘Till then.
