New to this? Here’s the intro.
Last week: Week 2

Some ranks are shaken up this week, and the volatility of it all is exciting. This is honestly one of the most fun seasons of Fantasy Anime League we’ve played, and definitely the most potentially interesting one since we started recording them here – while our relative places are clear, just about no one is safe, as shows continue to grow and change and different stats have heavy impacts on different weeks. We even have someone in first who has never been there before!

Hamdog92 says:

Celebration Theme: https://youtu.be/eV0NuQNQoX0

This is my first time in 1st place. I’m still quite speechless to be honest. It’s hard to believe that I was even able to draft the anime that has skyrocketed me into this position.

I don’t have Re:Zero on my team nor Kiznaiver which are the two top scoring anime this week and likely for the season. However, the key to my success is holding a stranglehold on all the other popular anime this season. Sakamoto, Mayoiga, Joker Game, and Netoge occupy the immediate ranks below Kiznaiver and their combined strength has launched me upwards farther than I have ever been before! I see the winged angel of victory soaring above me….I can almost grasp at her!

The one fault I can see in my wings is my miscalculation of Luluco’s success. I went with Flying Witch last week because it had a better score and lower drop numbers over Luluco’s x2 watchers. Perhaps I should have trusted a middle school space cop girl over the high school teen witch. Flying Witch’s score this week did not work in my favor sadly and now Luluco has fewer drops than Flying Witch. Hopefully this is just minor turbulence for my Flying Witch, but I may have to consider a swap towards Luluco later in the season.

We shall see what happens.

In a case of inevitability, Hamdog92 takes his rightful place at the top of the hill for apparently the first time ever. This comes, as he notes, despite his earlier swap for Flying Witch that ended up burning him a little, and he won’t be able to swap it back in until week 5. That could easily add up as time goes on, but for now it’s not enough to stop his momentum.

- Score (8.04): 24120

Guycot says:

This week I did the good old fashioned strat of sitting back and watching. Since I don’t really have a chance to ace with Ushio at the moment there was really nothing I could do.
My big quandary at the moment is do I risk switching Endride in for those extra points over Ushio, the big problem being its ridiculous drop numbers. Anyways big advancements this week, lostpikachu fell as planned and I maintain my position.

Current theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjcOJmoJwpk

A successful swap in for Endride would be just what Guycot needs to pass Hamdog92, as without Luluco on his team, Hamdog92 barely beat Guycot’s score increase this week (by only 436 points!). Any sort of boost above his current potential would put the race in his favor, but between that and Hamdog92’s bench, nothing is absolute.

lostpikachu says:

It’s all coming crashing down. Ace Attorney is just murdering me, and Joker Game and Mayoiga just can’t pull in the numbers I really need to stay ahead. 1st place was fun for two weeks. Now just hoping I don’t keep freefalling

As we haven’t actually reached drop weeks yet, punny anime Ace Attorney isn’t doing quite as bad as lostpikachu says here. That time is coming, of course, and I don’t see its watching number going up any time soon. That makes me wonder if we will eventually be in a position where it would actually profit lostpikachu to swap in Endride; it wouldn’t be the most strange thing I’ve ever seen.

NeoRevan says:

Well… I suppose it could have been worst. lostpikachu is falling faster than Will E Coyote trying to catch the Roadrunner, Hamdog92 and Guycot seem uncatchable quite possibly, and David and Alex are right behind me. TBH, not quite so worried about them just yet, but I need to change something or Wright is going to ruin me. Need to do some maths, but the question is should I swap out Wright for Ushio now, or just take my lumps this drop week, and swap next score week. Right now Hundred is doing better in a Watch to Drop ratio than Wright, which is why I am keeping it, otherwise it is entirely equivalent to Wright.
I doubt I’m going to win, but my hope is for a top three win. Poor Aeg. I brought him into this, and I know he has a lot of great anime to force watch me…but he just can’t win. Ah well, middle of the pack seems about par for the course for me.

Unfortunately, even topping lostpikachu is currently a bit of a dream for NeoRevan. They share the unfortunate fate of Ace Attorney on their teams, and lostpikachu’s growth is still better than NeoRevan’s. Also, NeoRevan doesn’t have anything special on his bench, while lostpikachu at least has the hope of Endride being a decent swap in the coming weeks. All’s not lost, since early looks show calisthenics anime Re:Zero‘s discussion hasn’t been slowing down, but it’s not exactly a guarantee, either.

Meanwhile I’m doing way better than I thought I was, but I really need to bite the bullet and switch in Cerberus. Thanks to Kiznaiver and Sakamoto desu ga?, I am in a close race with NeoRevan, but I think the bump of Cerberus over Bakuon!! would put me over the top. My sights aren’t set on the top, but somewhere high is definitely feasible.

aeg2138 says:

So I forgot to double check my numbers and didn’t account for x2 scores on my team and my Big Order ace failed so that’s 6k I’m never getting back which makes me mad but oh well. Still, I gained a spot because my team is doing pretty well all things considered. I really need Big Order to gain some more watching momentum though, if it can break 30k by the end of the week without going to much over 800 dropped I should have a good positive gain rate established; which should hopefully lead me to overtake NeoRevan and draft4fal, who are both well within my sights.

Big Order is really struggling. On aeg2138’s bench, Flying Witch is still beating it out, and even Kuma Miko is doing better than it. Its biggest strength may be that its score doesn’t quite reflect the general disappointment surrounding it, but as things stand, Kuromukuro would probably be beating it if Kuromukuro were being streamed anywhere. Top that off with his botched ace, and this isn’t the best place to be. Hopefully the future is kinder to aeg2138.

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

I think this will be the general pattern for Necromaster’s future – non-discussion weeks will be a drag, but Re:Zero will give his other weeks a good look. I’m actually kind of surprised he isn’t doing better. His team isn’t amazing but is pretty solid, but I suppose its weaknesses are proving to be hard to beat – Kurmukuro and Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge aren’t really doing any work, and Joker Game is doing very well but not pulling the numbers that might be necessary. Overall it probably comes down to how big discussion weeks are for Necromaster.

- Score (8.71): 26130
Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

It is unfortunately pretty easy to see the problem keeping Sestrel at the bottom: she has no its. None of her shows are even past 30k watchers, and the one that is (Ace Attorney) is also set to be ravaged by its own circumstances in the near future. There isn’t much positive to be said here, but here’s a fun tidbit: both of Sestrel’s bench anime are the bottom two shows overall right now. And hey, maybe that Sinbad anime will pick up some viewers.

And that’s it again for this week of a rather fun season of Fantasy Anime League. Next week, each anime puts its money where its mouth is and shows off how well it can retain its audience:

  • −4 points for each user who has anime under “Dropped” upon week 4.

Sorry to everyone who has Ace Attorney, and I’ll see you next FAL time.
